For the Love of Our Animals - Show #110
My mom is going to share this week’s announcement with you…I’m taking a vacation today WOOF!

This week on Animal Talk Naturally we have with us repeat guest and friend Ron Hevener. This audio was recorded as Ron’s seminar during the 2006 1st Annual Online Dog Expo under a different title but the meaning for us is the same. This is a very serious subject but the basis of the topic is that we love our animals - all of us - and we want the freedom to continue to enjoy and interact with animals as they enrich and enlighten our lives! Parts of this seminar have been edited out in order to keep the focus entirely on Ron’s message. Here is this week’s synopsis: [Read more →]

“The Three T’s”

The Three T's

Written by James A. Andreson

Illustrated by Ron Hevener

TRANQUILITY is what all of us were feeling, here in Michigan, on a sunny spring day. It was the type of day when the grass was a bright, new, fresh green. The trees were bursting with buds ready to break into blossom, absorbing all the sun’s rays that they could. The mares were also welcoming the Spring after a hard Winter.

Winter months seemed to really take their toll on the older mares. The old girls (the “geriatrics group”) bonded together. To help each other through difficult Winter days and nights, they formed very close feelings for each other. Now, with the onset of Spring, they were the first to soak in the sun’s warmth. Fresh grass was appearing almost overnight, in a green carpet of nourishment that the older mares knew was a great source of food to revitalize old joints and bodies, repairing what Winter had ravaged. As precious as our animals are to us, as great is our desire to do the best for them. What is the best for them? Euthanasia has become our most common answer. What other options are there? Most of us, including the professional healthcare community, are unfamiliar with the natural dying process. Information about hospice care for animals is difficult to find.

This is the video from my very special Neo Mastiff boy’s birthday this year as he turned 8 years old and has graced our home since December 1999. We don’t know his exact birth date of course since he is a rescue but we estimated his birth to be in August and we just picked a day to celebrate it, August 3rd - as in the power of Three.

Shadrach is who motivates me to help others in their search for a better way to care for their animals. Happy Birthday Shadrach, we love you!
