REf. Show #169 with Dr. Blake.
What is colostrom and where do you get it.\?
In the discussion of treating parasites he mentioned
some kind of Extract. What is it?
Other that a healthy lifestyle, food, water, etc, is there a natural plreventive for heart worm?
Earlier you spoke of a nasty stuff, I think it was
premaris ro something similar. What was that?
Thank you. I was just introduced to your show by a dog walking friend.
Three months ago I rescued a Westie from a puppy mill. She’s about 3 and is afraid of everything, even me after 3 months, though not as much. Is there a magic way to calm her. She gets the best food, water, lots of exercise, and lots of massages and love.
Thank you for all of the links on your web site. It will take weeks, but I will read all of them.
Peace and love,
Bob Raab
Thank you for listening to Animal Talk Naturally!
I’ll answer your questions here:
1. Colostrum:
http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/product_detail.aspx?item_cd=149001&click=2083
- answers to what it is are on the page
2. An extract? I am not certain what extract he was talking about unless I go back and listen to it - we do up to three shows per week so I forget more than I know (a Yogi Bera). It could’ve been grapefruit seed extract which all three of us use. You can find it here:
http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/cgi-bin/Main.pl?AID=065977&BID=30
Just do a search for the extract and you’ll find it. I use a lot of their products myself
3. Well there are some things you can do for a natural heartworm prevention but the best is to support the immune system through a species appropriate diet. As Dr. Blake said, the use of the so-called “preventions” is all fear-based. Here is an article on one of my blogs written by my colleague and co-host/friend Dr. Jeannie:
http://www.adogsview.com/2006/02/17/natural-heartworm-prevention/
4. With a puppy mill dog, it can take quite some time to help them transition and to know they’re safe. They get very little human interaction and what they do get isn’t usually very good. So give her time. There is no such thing as “magic” or “quick” when it comes to true health, temperament, behavior, etc. It all takes time, diligence, love and commitment. If you want to calm her, I do have an aromatherapy spray I created called “Be Calm” that can help but it isn’t a replacement to the long-term work of helping
her to trust. Here is the link:

Thank you for listening to our show, and thank your dog walking friend for referring you to us. I believe you’ll find all the answers you’re looking for within all of the shows - from animal nature, to animal health, to the human-animal bond.
Have a tail waggin’ day!
