AUTUMN ENERGY THOUGHTS
Autumn is a time of ingathering and reflection. This is when we need to begin the process of drawing our energy and thoughts inward toward our center. Horses, dogs and cats know how to do this instinctively. They become less active, sleep more, add some body weight in preparation for the storing and preserving of energy in the depths of winter cold. We need to do the same.

In accord with the Five Phases of Transformation it is the period of time associated with the Metal Element. The metaphor of Metal depicts a time where we need to appreciate the value of our lives. Like all animals, our lives depend on breathing in and exhaling what is not needed to survive. Hence, Metal is associated with the yin organ system, the Lung. The material waste of the body is removed by the Large Intestine, the paired yang organ system for the Metal element. Together, the Lung and Large Intestine allow the body to retain what is valuable and let go of what is no longer needed. This is very necessary for survival.

Take time to reflect on what you value — the activities, people, and animals that are important to retain so that you can enhance the quality of your life. Let go of what no longer serves your needs. Autumn offers all of us the moments to slow down and reflect, enjoy them.
