Light Banishes Darkness

Light Banishes Darkness

by Kim Bloomer
“The best protection against evil is a heart bent toward good; seeking God in all things.” - John Fischer (A Purpose Driven Life Daily Devotional - inspiration for the title of this article).

Darkness has crept into the world of animals and animal protection over the years, with 2007 shaping up to be the darkest yet. Those of us who love our animals and want to continue to live with them in companionship (rather than banish them to a “gaze upon at a distance place,” as the animal rights movement would have us do), are experiencing a rude awakening to the true dark agenda of this movement. It is this awakening that has gotten pet lovers, pet owners and breeders moving, speaking out, and taking action. We’re out of the gates a bit slow but like Phar Lap the racehorse, we can come from way behind and stride out front to win this race and leave them in the dust! [Read more →]

Kim Bloomer & Shadrach the Neo Mastiff

This last week one of the worst anti-pet laws to ever hit the law books was unleashed on Louisville, KY. Certainly the extreme animal rights groups are behind this latest fiasco to end all pet ownership period. Actually not just end pet ownership but end PETS. Yes you did read correctly…end pets because they’re slaves don’t you know. At least that’s what these delusional animal rights extremists would have everyone believe. The saddest part is pet owners and animal lovers are the very people helping these organizations get their laws passed in some of the biggest animal supported states and cities around the world!

Does that make sense? Well of course it doesn’t but it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening because it is. If it can happen in Louisville, KY where we think of horses, rolling pasturelands, and dog shows then it can happen anywhere and it is right under our pet owner noses! First the HEART Ordinance passed here in Albuquerque, NM which is insanity forcing everyone to spay or neuter and microchip their pets by April 2007. ALL and anyone with breeding stock will pay heavy fees and licenses to own and breed their animals. This has an animal rights agenda to it to end all pet ownership. This is NOT about responsible pet ownership because in a free country, we’d have the right AND responsibility to make those decisions for ourselves. This is about ending pet ownership, ending our freedoms, ending our rights.

Kim Bloomer & Shadrach the Neo Mastiff
by Kim Bloomer

The year is nearly gone and it seems as though it has flown past! I can look back and can see all that has transpired in one short year and be absolutely amazed because as it was happening, it didn’t seem like so much was going on. Next month we’ll recap the year on our podcast and also in the commentary but this month, let me just share some of the cool things that have happened with Animal Talk Naturally in October and November. The Journey

Kim Bloomer & Shadrach the Neo Mastiff
This will probably be the oddest article I’ve ever written but it is a synopsis of our Animal Talk Naturally journey. This is part of an email I wrote to our good friend Dogtor J recently so he had the full picture about how Animal Talk Naturally came into existence. We felt he should know since he is a regular monthly contributor to our show. This is a bit of an expose to you all, although I’ve left out mention of a couple of people on purpose. Here is my version of our journey in all its unadorned reality -listen to Jeannie and I share the whole story though on our November 22nd show:

On Tuesday, October 24th, my husband Donnie stopped off at a local all natural dog food supply store, K9 Kitchen, to pick up some more meat and treats for our dog Shadrach. Donnie said that the owner and employees in this small, friendly store were in an uproar over a recent article in the Albuquerque Journal entitled “Rubbed the Wrong Way” by Isabel Sanchez. The article made the front page so it is a very important piece of news to everyone who either has animals or works in the industry.

A Mastiff-sized Undertaking

Kim Bloomer
Albuquerque, NM - Sept 2006

What a month September has been! With brand new guests who shared their diverse backgrounds and expertise to a mastiff-sized undertaking with the 1st Annual Online Dog Expo, Animal Talk Naturally has been busy.

We began our month with new guest Penny Leisch, Pets by Penny. Penny is an author, photographer, and a very active rescuer of primarily dogs and cats but she has done some work with horses also. Penny was traveling during the Online Dog Expo so she pre-recorded a session for us to include which was amazing considering she was packing and then moving right afterwards! Just goes to show how dedicated to helping our animals some people are no matter if they receive anything in return or not! We enjoyed having Penny so much she’ll be back in January to share with us again only we’ll be talking with her specifically about cat rescue this time. [Read more →]

The Tail Waggin’ End

Kim and Shadrach

Here is our latest commentary article:

The Tail Waggin’ End
Kim Bloomer

It’s really hard to believe that the summer is fading to black, well not really black, but it’s at the tail-waggin’ end for sure! For me it seems as though it just got started. That’s because it has been one heck of a whirlwind summer and I don’t even have a tan! I’ve been either strapped to a computer or waiting out the six weeks of rain we’ve had here in NM. I’m not complaining though because we sure have needed it. So let’s get down to business and let me share with you all that has happened since the last time we had this chat. [Read more →]

The Dog Days of Summer

Kim and Shadrachby Kim Bloomer

As summer draws on towards our longest days, it bears reminding not to leave our dogs locked in a car for a “quick” stop at the store. “I had the windows cracked, I don’t know why he got so overheated” is a common refrain from people who’ve left their dogs locked in a hot car during the height of summer only to return to find their “beloved” companion dead. Don’t let your midsummer night dreams turn into nightmares - just leave your dog at home in your air conditioned home. He’ll love you for it!

Eight Tips to Help You Keep Your Pets Tail Waggin’ Happy and Safe Through Hot Summer Months

By Kim BloomerNow that spring is ending and summer is drawing ever near we’ll want to remain extra diligent in keeping our pets happy and healthy during the heat of the summer. Here are a few tips for keeping them safe and happy during the heat of the summer:

1. Make sure that your pets have plenty of fresh, pure clean water DAILY. This does not include water from the tap but pure, chlorine-free, fluoride-free water if at all possible. If you do use the reverse osmosis water that removes ALL toxins, make sure to add back in much needed minerals to your pets’ water AND yours. 2. Never exercise your dog during the heat of the day. While you may be able to throw on some shorts and a hat and stay cool, your dog has a normal temperature of 101.6 PLUS the added heat of a fur coat. Leave them at home if you plan to exercise in the day. The best time for your dogs is early, early morning to get their daily exercise. [Read more →]

Healthy Pet Tips and Commentary

Kim and Shadrachby Kim Bloomer

Spring is in the air!! If you’re going on vacation and thinking about bringing along man’s best friend or any other animal friend, make sure you look into the safety record of any airline before you decide to bring your pet along. Even though airline safety for pets has increased, it is still risky for your dog or cat to fly –they actually do better on the ground. Seriously though this means they still die or get injured and like our luggage, yes they even get lost. You get on a plane to fly to Hawaii and find out your pet is on vacation in Maine. Be careful and do your homework. The alternative would be to drive OR leave your pets at home with a pet sitter which is my personal favorite. [Read more →]
